Julia, also known as Jewels, is a multidisciplinary artist from Queens, New York City, proudly rooted in her Peruvian and Moroccan heritage. Raised by a devoted hard working single mother, her childhood was spent in solitude This solitude became a canvas for her imagination, as she sought solace in the vibrant imagery and expressive storytelling of films, which profoundly shaped her artistic sensibilities from a young age.
At just nine years old, Julia embarked on her creative journey through oil painting, laying the foundation for her diverse artistic pursuits. Her keen observation of the world’s overlooked beauty inspired her to capture and share these fleeting moments. In adolescence, she expanded her repertoire to include various media, with photography emerging as a pivotal form of expression. Through the lens, she adeptly preserves the ephemeral essence of life’s moments, transforming the mundane into something worth savoring.
Today, Julia works as a freelance photographer and videographer with a BFA in Photography, collaborating with organizations such as The Candi Project—known for its heartfelt wedding films—and the Color Resource Center Photo Lab in NYC, where she continues to develop her technical expertise in film processing and printing.
Julia’s work is a reflection of her free spirit and evolving sense of self. Her multicultural roots and personal experiences breathe life into her creations, inviting others to see the world not just as it is, but as it feels—with all its mystery, vulnerability, and wonder.
